Drama Queen (2002)
A promo clip for a rag-tag bunch of dirty rock ‘n rollers - Firesign - born and blooded on Australia’s Gold Coast gig scene. Lead guitarist Paul Gallagher had spent many years documenting the band’s gigs, rehearsals and extra curricular exploits with a single minded determinism which rivaled his commitment to his musical craft. As a result hundreds of hours of footage were captured on various mediums - digital 8, mini DV, DV Cam - under a variety of lighting conditions and a variety of states of mind over a period of several years.
This footage was painstakingly culled down to manageable snippets to compile this 5 minute video clip to their then single “Drama Queen”. Gallagher’s inspiration was the chaotic framing devices employed in the Guns & Rose’s clip for “Paradise City” from 1987. [Gallagher’s choice of sunglasses and stage pyrotechnics was also emblematic of the their 1980s rock fetish back when the hipsters were just learning to to tie their shoes].
Videography and stage choreography by Paul Gallagher. Edited by Mitch Goodwin.
A Firesign and Club Peerless Digital Production, 2002.
